The Foldable Container for Storage and Transportation of Agricultural Produce was developed under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Plastic Engineering in Agricultural Structure and Environment management, ICAR, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh during the year 2012 and patent of this innovation was filed in the year 2013. This unique invention was granted a patent by the Patent Office, Govt. of India from March 06, 2013 for 20 years recently. This research work was also appreciated with two national awards. National Research Development Corporation, Ministry of Science and Technology awarded first award of “Societal Innovation Award” during the year 2014” to the scientists of the scheme. Department of Chemicals and Petrochemical, Ministry of Chemicals and fertilizers, Government of India awarded second award of “Technology Innovation in Petrochemicals and Downstream Plastic Processing Industry”. This is the first patent of the Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh as well as the AICRP on PEASEM (ICAR). Dr. V. P. Chovatia, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh has delighted and appreciated the achievement of the scientists.

Salient Features of Foldable Plastic Box

This box is strong, light weight, long lasting, clean, good stacking and moisture free. Its cell can be adjusted according to fruit size. The sheets can be separated to nullify impact damage of upper layer. To provide proper respiration to the produce, a perforation is provided in the box. Using this box, transportation loss can be minimized. Transportation cost of empty box can be reduced by folding empty box. The container is completely foldable and reusable. It is efficient in handling, transportation and storage of horticultural produce.
